Finnish law: marked routes require age 15+ and at least a T-class (tractor) licence, included in B and motorcycle licences, not in moped licences. Rental companies usually require a B licence and age 18+, some 20+.

Varies by operator: typically a €1,200–2,000 credit-card hold or equivalent self-risk commitment. Released after the return inspection.

Basic insurance included. Self-risk typically €1,200–2,000 on self-drive rentals, €900–1,000 on guided safaris. A waiver (€20–35/day) drops it to €150–500.

Stay on marked trails. Max 60 km/h, 80 km/h on ice-covered waters, 40 km/h towing passengers in a sleigh. The 0.5‰ alcohol limit applies; many operators enforce zero tolerance.

The ranges on this page were compiled by hand from the public price lists of nine Finnish rental companies on 3 July 2026. Older sleds (from about €130) and turbo-sport models (€440–490 per day) are left outside the ranges, so the figures reflect what an ordinary rental actually costs.
