It's one of the best months for aurora viewing.
Kaamos, the polar night. The sun barely lifts above the horizon north of the Arctic Circle. Christmas demand pushes prices up; book 3–4 weeks ahead. Aurora and atmosphere are at their peak.
Peak winter. Reliable deep snow, all trails open, the coldest month, dress for it. Short days create dramatic blue twilight conditions. All safari types running.
Arguably the best month. Deep snow, returning daylight, and still cold enough that conditions hold. Lake ice is at its thickest and safest. Expect Finnish school-holiday week mid-month.
Maximum snow depth. Plenty of daylight for full-day safaris. Sun, sparkle, photogenic conditions. The most popular month overall, book well ahead. Spring skiing overlaps.
Late season. Warm sun softens the surface; trails start closing mid-month. Long golden hours for photography, fewer crowds, lower prices. A genuinely under-rated time to ride.
No snowmobiling. Lapland turns to hiking, fishing and the midnight sun instead. Season typically reopens in late November once snow holds.
